About the Flathead Valley Montana
The Flathead Valley is situated just west of the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains, amid the Swan, Mission, Salish and Whitefish ranges of northwest Montana. In addition to the outstanding recreational opportunities available everywhere from Flathead Lake to the top of Big Mountain and beyond, the Flathead Valley offers both peaceful relaxation and a range of exciting cultural choices to visitors and residents alike.
Kalispell, the largest city in the Flathead Valley, serves as the retail and business center of Northwest Montana. To the north, the long-time ski and summer resort town of Whitefish now boasts a thriving arts community. Columbia Falls, on the scenic Flathead River, is often called “The Gateway to Glacier National Park.”
Bigfork’s “Village by the Bay” charm captures the hearts of art-lovers and theatergoers with its many galleries, unique shops, and the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Polson rests on Flathead Lake’s southern shore, inviting visitors to play on the lake, paddle the Flathead River, or explore the lovely Mission Valley to the south.
